History
Sweet Berry Farm encompasses 100 acres, 80 of which are under cultivation. In 1980, Jan and Michelle Eckhart purchased Sweet Berry Farm and started a pick your own strawberry and Christmas Tree Farm. In 1996, they partnered with the Aquidneck Land Trust to preserve additional acreage and expanded the pick your own crops to include raspberries, blackberries, blueberries, peaches, apples, pumpkins and gourds.
Agricultural Practices
We are a State certified Good Agricultural Practices(GAP) farm using Integrated Pest Management (IPM) to keep insects and diseases to a minimum. These practices include many natural and biological “tricks” to allow us to be low or no spray. The majority of our crops are pesticide free.
Other Crops We Grow
In addition to the pick your own fruit crops, we grow a wide variety of cut flowers as well as vegetables including asparagus, lettuce, tomatoes, sweet corn, herbs, beets, leeks, carrots, swiss chard, cucumbers, eggplant, peppers, melons, onions, shallots, scallions, summer squash, zucchini, winter squash, pumpkins, gourds, and Indian corn.
