Golden Supreme:Great fresh eating and cooking apple.Sweet and flavorful with a smooth texture. Gala:Great fresh eating apple.Sweet, aromatic, and crisp.
3rd week of September
Macoun:Great fresh eating and cooking apple.Crisp, sweet, tart, rich flavor. Cortland:One of the best cooking apples.It keeps its shape and is slow to discolor when cut.Also delicious eaten fresh. Honeycrisp:Superior fresh eating apple.Sweet and exceptionally crisp.Fabulous!
End of September
Jonagold:Great fresh eating apple.Flesh is juicy, firm, crisp, and fine textured; aromatic, rich, and honeyed.Award-winning dessert apple. Empire:Great for fresh eating and cooking.Crisp, sweet, juicy flesh.Clean sweet flavor. Liberty:Great fresh eating and cooking.Juicy, fine textured, and good flavor.

Red Delicious:Great fresh eating apple.Fine textured, sweet, and aromatic.Flesh is a bit too firm for easy cooking. Mutsu Crispin:Excellent fresh eating and good cooking apple.Very juicy textured flesh.When cooked it holds its shape well. Cameo:Great for fresh eating or cooking.Crisp, tangy flesh. Autumn Gala:Best eaten fresh.Crisp, sweet, and aromatic. Ida Red:Good fresh eating and cooking apple.Firm, crisp, and juicy with a pleasant, sweet flavor.

Mix apples for the best pies.Go heavy on Cortland and light on Macintosh, with another variety or two mixed in.Most pie recipes call for 4–5 lbs. of apples.
